COVID Leave

Beginning October 1, 2021, permanent and probationary employees who accrue sick leave will be eligible for 5 days of COVID Leave. Full time employees will be entitled to 40 hours of COVID leave; part-time employees will be entitled to a pro-rated number of COVID leave hours based on their appointment percentage. COVID Leave will expire when the State of Emergency declared as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in Governor Inslee’s Proclamation 20-05 has ended.

COVID Leave may be used for the following reasons:

  • Receiving your own COVID vaccination or booster shot or accompanying a family member to obtain a vaccination shot/booster
  • For your own COVID-related illness
  • Staying home when experiencing COVID-type symptoms
  • For recovery from adverse side effects of COVID vaccination, including booster shots
  • For a COVID-related isolation/quarantine period
  • Caring for a family member experiencing any of the above
  • Providing COVID-related child or elder care
  • Time away from campus if the employee is prohibited from onsite work and is not approved to work remotely in the event of an outbreak as defined in POL - U1300.02 Requiring Proof of COVID Vaccination Status.

COVID Leave should be reported and submitted in the same manner as other paid leave types. The COVID Leave code is CLV – COVID Leave.

COVID Leave Donation Program

Beginning October 1, 2021, employees can donate leave to other employees in need of COVID leave support. This program will be available until the State of Emergency declared as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in Governor Inslee’s Proclamation 20-05 has ended.

Leave Use:

Employees receiving leave under this program must follow general leave use guidelines under the applicable collective bargaining agreement or handbook, however employee may maintain up to 80 hours of sick leave and up to 80 hours of vacation leave in reserve and be eligible for leave under this program.

Leave under the COVID Leave Donation Program may be used for the following reasons:

  • For your own COVID-related illness
  • Staying home when experiencing COVID-type symptoms
  • For recovery from adverse side effects of COVID vaccination, including booster shots
  • For a COVID-related isolation/quarantine period
  • Caring for a family member experiencing any of the above
  • Accompanying a family member to obtain a vaccination shot
  • Providing COVID-related child or elder care

Leave Donation:

Employees may donate the following types of leave under this program:

Vacation leave Balance must remain above 80 hours after transfer
Sick leave Balance must remain above 176 hours after transfer
Personal holiday Eligible for transfer
